Argon

Argon

Gas Symbol Argon 500p 011123

Argon is an inert (non-reactive) gas which accounts for only 1 percent of atmospheric air, and is used for a variety of items, from incandescent light bulbs to double-glazed windows. Argon is sourced from air separation plants, and is purified to achieve different grades required.

Argon is used in welding to help with arc starts as well as maintain longer arcs at lower welding voltages. Argon in its pure form is often used for metal arc welding as well as TIG (tungsten inert gas) welding on aluminum, ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Commonly blended with CO2, helium and oxygen. It’s also used in the iron and metal industries to prevent oxidation, and in laboratories as a purge gas.

WHAT ARE PEOPLE SAYING?

"I've been a customer at SJ Smith in Decatur for 10 years now, and every time I stop by, the guys there are so incredibly friendly and helpful. From refilling my oxy/propane mini tanks for metalsmithing work to swapping out my propane tank on my grill, they've always helped me with everything I've needed. When I first started out with a torch, one of the guys even helped me figure out how to disassemble and reassemble my torch and gauges to my tanks safely. Its always a pleasure to swing by."
